[ssba-buttons]I recently became fascinated with the idea of Kaizen, a Japanese term I heard months ago on The Foodist podcast. Was this another life-changing Marie Kondo-esque technique I could use to break some bad habits? I had to learn more.
Turns out, it was just a simple concept used in everything from factories to self-help that essentially meant “good change,” and referred to a practice of making tiny incremental, almost embarrassingly small changes that compound over time into bigger payoffs. Baby steps to brilliance! I loved it.
This notion completely aligns with my personal philosophy as a health and fitness writer. Having covered the so-called transformation industry, and its restrictive diets and intense fitness programs, I recognized the value of committing each day to doable little micro changes.
With so many people — especially women of my age — short on time and overwhelmed by the competing demands of work and family, this principle seemed like the perfect way to actually address a few nagging habits that stood between me and my health goals.
I mean, if I can’t make a few relatively underwhelming changes to my routine — changes that most health experts would sneeze at — who am I to call myself a health writer?!? And if Alex and I could serve as guinea pigs and test this Kaizen concept together, even better! Our goal at ITA is to find those little changes, those little bits of progress that make life sweeter. And if we fail, we fail together and fail better each time.
In our first podcast, Alex and I will each reveal one of our bad habits, the dirty little health secrets that we both feel guilty about. Be patient with us, it’s our first podcast. But we think you’ll enjoy it. And we welcome the chance to get to know you and have some company on this journey of ours to a more vibrant empowered life.
Because you know what we say… Go Small or Go Home!
